Animals gather at the river and giraffe, bushbuck, and hartebeest, are often seen. The Park, also home to buffalo, zebra, and wildebeest, all of whom are closely attended by a range of predators, Simba the King, and his cousin, the leopard. From the open roof of our state of the art Safari Truck we will be able to absorb the landscape and watch the wildlife. We enjoy a picnic lunch in the park, which includes a delicious varied repast, coffee, and soft drinks. The animals roam freely through the unfenced reserves offering us an uninterrupted game viewing experience.
Arriving at the edge of the crater we have our first glimpse of what awaits us the following day – glistening streams, open grassland and a myriad amount of animals.

We spend the evening and night at one of our carefully selected luxury partner lodges, boasting aesthetically tasteful restaurants, a pool for relaxation, and the most commodious of rooms for your rest, ease, and dreams of the African Wild.

This UNESCO world heritage site, one of the seven wonders of Africa, formed about three million years ago, is 610 m deep and covers roughly 260 square kilometres. Due to its dense animal population of approximately 25,000 ungulates, the crater offers the best game viewing of all the parks in Tanzania. In a matter of minutes we will be able to see wildebeest, zebra, gazelle, elephant, and some of the more than 500 bird species here inhabiting. With a little bit of luck we may catch a glimpse of the endangered black rhino through the grass.
After an extensive game drive and a picnic lunch we leave the crater in the afternoon to travel back to Karatu, again staying at one of our, hand-picked for quality, accommodation.

Day: 9 Lake Manyara National Park to Zanzibar

After breakfast we drive to our final destination on this epic safari – Lake Manyara National Park. This relatively small but diverse park, 120km west of Arusha, is so named for the shallow salt lake which covers a good seventy percent of the parks surface area. Flooding and drying with the seasons the soda lake is home to thousands of flamingo as well as over 500 other bird species. On our exploration of the park we will see monkey, giraffe, zebra, wildebeest, buffalo, elephant and, with some luck, lions lounging in the trees. The park is known for its diverse landscapes; not only open grassy plains, but also primate-filled woodlands and baobab dotted cliffs. After another memorable game drive we, with our adventure at an end, return to Arusha were you will take your flight to Zanzibar Stone town.

Stone Town

Stone Town is the old city and cultural heart of Zanzibar and little has changed in the last 200 years. It is a place of winding alleys, bustling bazaars, mosques and grand Arab houses. Stone Town has brought together many different elements of the cultures of Africa, the Arab region, India, and Europe over more than a thousand years. You can spend endless hours just wandering through the fascinating labyrinth of narrow streets and alleyways, absorbing the years of history. We would highly recommend a guided tour of Stone Town, which can be organized at your hotel.

Accommodation

Maru Maru Hotel/ Kholle House

Day: 10 -13 Stone town to North Coast (Nungwi)

you will transfer to Nungwi. This large village at Zanzibar Island’s northernmost tip was once best known as a dhow-building Centre. Today it’s a major tourist destination, thanks in part to the beautiful beach and stunning sunsets. The result: a place where traditional and modern knocks against each other with full force. Diving, snorkeling, fishing and other water sports are the main attraction here. From Nungwi, frequented dive sites are mainly down the east coast or to Mnemba Island and reefs near Tumbatu Island. For swimmers, Nungwi’s local geography and tidal pattern mean swimming is possible at any time. Other activities available include yoga, cycling and guided tours of the village.
